On Monday, December 03, 2018, a residence in the 20500 block of Washtenaw was burglarized during the day while the home owners were at work. Entry was gained through a side window. The incident was recorded on a neighbor’s surveillance system which revealed three suspects were involved. Two suspects entered the residence through a side window while the third suspect stayed outside acting as a look-out. Televisions and house/vehicle keys were stolen.
On Tuesday, December 04, 2018, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a residence in the 20600 block of Washtenaw had a delivered package stolen from the front porch. The residence was equipped with a surveillance system which captured the suspect and the theft. The homeowner forwarded the footage to the HWDPS.
Early Wednesday morning, December 05, 2018, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Harper Woods police officers on routine patrol took three male juveniles into custody for curfew violation in the area of Washtenaw and Peerless. Harper Woods detectives were able to determine the three juveniles were responsible for the December 3rd burglary. One of the juveniles was also responsible for the December 4th package theft.
Harper Woods detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in Harper Woods where two of the juveniles reside. Stolen property from the December 3rd Home Invasion was located and recovered. Detectives also recovered several packages believed to be stolen property from other porch larcenies in Harper Woods and Detroit.
Two of the juveniles were placed in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility where they will be charged with Home Invasion. The third juvenile was transported to the Macomb County Juvenile Detention facility for an outstanding warrant. He will be charged with the Home Invasion in the near future.
Two of the juveniles, ages 15 and 16, reside in the City of Harper Woods. The third juvenile, age 14, is a resident of the City of Detroit.
In the evening of December 05, 2018, HWDPS responded to three home invasions which occurred during the day while the residents were at work. Two of the home invasions occurred in the 19000 block of Woodside and the third in the 19000 block of Old Homestead. Detectives are investigating and believe the three arrested juveniles may be responsible.
