Morgan Hill Police Hire New Captain

The Morgan Hill Police Department (MHPD) welcomes a new addition. Emil Kokesh will start his new job with the City of Morgan Hill as a Police Captain on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Kokesh comes to the MHPD from the City of San Bernardino where he served for 27 years, most recently as a Sergeant overseeing the Homicide Unit. While in San Bernardino he led their regional auto theft taskforce, worked as an Acting Lieutenant, and was a first responder to the terrorist event at the Inland Regional Center in December of 2015.

Kokesh’s hiring culminates the state-wide recruitment led by Teri Black of Teri Black and Company. Kokesh will be part of Chief Swing’s Command Staff along with Support Services Manager Patti Yinger and Captain Shane Palsgrove. The position was open after the retirement of Jerry Neumayer. Chief Swing is excited about Kokesh’s hiring stating, “Emil will bring a depth of experience and a new perspective of policing to our agency. I look forward to him getting to know our team and our community.”

Kokesh will lead the Special Operations Division which includes Investigations, Internal Affairs, School Resource Programs and the Office of Emergency Services.

Kokesh is excited to get started in Morgan Hill stating, “I am incredibly grateful to be joining the Morgan Hill team and truly honored to have the opportunity to serve alongside the men and women of the Morgan Hill Police Department.”
