DeWayne Johnson arrested for petty theft and parole violation

LOCATION: Yucaipa Police Department, 34000 block of Yucaipa Blvd.
SUSPECT(S): DeWayne Johnson, 39-year-old, resident of Yucaipa
VICTIM(S): 27-year-old female, resident of Yucaipa
SUMMARY: The victim was at the Yucaipa Police Station completing administrative paperwork in the public lobby. While she waited for office staff to complete their portion of the paperwork, she stepped outside, inadvertently leaving her wallet on the counter.
Johnson, a parolee, was in the lobby waiting to register as a sex offender. After the victim stepped outside, and while office staff was away from the counter, he took the victim’s wallet and concealed it in his jacket. When the victim realized what happened, she alerted staff and deputies immediately contacted Johnson and recovered the victim’s wallet. The crime was captured on multiple surveillance cameras.
Johnson was arrested for petty theft and booked into Central Detention Center. A parole hold was placed on him and he is being held without bail.
