Police receive a surprise on Giving Tuesday.
South Brunswick Police Officers were surprised this morning by a breakfast given by a grateful family. Susan Gong and her son Connor came to police headquarters at 7am Tuesday bringing breakfast for all the officers who helped save her husband’s life. On September 15, 2018 at 11:53am Officer Ryan Bartunek, Officer Christopher Magee-Vanderveen, and Sergeant Dan Olsson responded to the Gong family home on Steven Road in the Kendall Park section of the Township. Officer Bartunek was the first to arrive and found Henry Gong age 56 in cardiac arrest. Officer Bartunek began CPR and was soon joined by an EMS member, Officer Magee-Vanderveen, and Sergeant Olsson. Their rescue efforts helped revive Mr. Gong.
Susan Gong brought in egg McMuffin sandwiches, donuts, coffee, and juice to feed the entire dayshift Tuesday morning. In a note she attached to the breakfast she praised Officer Bartunek’s quick response. She wrote, “Thank you for your prompt response to my son’s 911 call. Thank you for moving quickly and without hesitation. You have a special place in our hearts.”
Chief Raymond Hayducka thanked the Gong family for the extra effort they showed in recognizing the officers. “Each day our officers go out to serve our community and make a difference. Mr. Gong’s life was saved by the training, equipment, and team effort all the officers displayed. Today’s breakfast reinforces the lives they impact by the work they do. It also reminds all of us in the department of the special community we work in.”
Mr. Gong is continuing to recover at home.
