WOMAN KILLED IN TRAFFIC COLLISION WITH BIG RIG IN RIVERBANK

Riverbank, CA - On Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at approximately 8:49 a.m., a 46 year old female from Oakdale was killed in a collision with a big rig.

The collision occurred on Atchison Avenue and 1st Street in the City of Riverbank. Preliminary information suggests that the female was eastbound on Atchison Avenue, which is part of state highway 108, attempting to walk her bicycle across the street, when the large truck made a right turn. The woman was struck by the vehicle and dragged under the vehicle for approximately 150 yards before falling under the tires and sustaining major head injuries.

Investigators from the Modesto Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to investigate the collision. Under an agreement for services between the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and the Modesto Police Department, the Modesto Police Police Traffic Unit investigates fatal collisions for cities patrolled by the Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of the truck is only being identified as a forty-five year old male from Modesto. Investigators were still obtaining statements and evidence at the time of this writing. The female has been identified, but information will not be released until after notification of the next of kin by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
