Fatal Traffic Collision: Wood Ranch Parkway at Lake Park Drive North
Traffic Collision Update
On November 17, 2018, at approximately 11:35 a.m., Simi Valley Police Officers responded to a report of a traffic collision in the area of Wood Ranch Parkway and Lake Park Drive North. Their investigation revealed that 78-year-old Simi Valley resident Janet Kakeldey initially rear ended a vehicle in the left turn lane at southbound Madera Road and N. Wood Ranch Parkway. The slow speed collision only caused a minimal amount of damage to the other vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
After the first collision, Janet Kakeldey turned southbound onto N. Wood Ranch Parkway and drove down the street at a high rate of speed. Janet’s 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV crashed into a tree at the Lake Park Drive North intersection. Janet’s husband, 87-year- old Ronald Kakeldey was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ventura County Fire Department. Janet sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local medical facility. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
