On Wednesday, November 14, 2018, Turlock Police Department Detectives arrested Patrick Fields, a 35 year old Turlock resident for murder. Mr. Fields is the second person arrested for the murder of 61 year old Edward Horton.

On Saturday, November 3, 2018, at about 12:02 A.M., Turlock Police Department received a call of an assault which had just occurred at a residence in the 100 block of Starr Ave. Mr. Horton advised officers that several subjects had forced their way into his home, assaulted him, and stole his cellular phone. He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment and officers began a robbery investigation. During this initial investigation, several persons of interest were identified. Officers attempted to get additional statements from the victim, but due to his medical condition, they were unable to.

On November 11, 2018, Turlock Police Department was notified that the victim did not survive his injuries and had died. Mr. Horton had died as a result of blunt force trauma sustained during the attack on November 3, 2018. Turlock Detectives were notified of this development and took over the investigation.

On November 13, 2018, Detectives interviewed several subjects regarding this incident. As a result of their investigation, Detectives, on November 14, 2018, arrested Jennifer Smith, a 35 year old female from Modesto, on suspicion of murder.

Mr. Fields had also been identified as a possible suspect in this case and patrol officers were asked to be on the lookout for Mr. Fields. On November 15, 2018, a patrol officer located and detained Mr. Fields. Detectives responded to the scene, interviewed Mr. Fields, and subsequently arrested him for murder.
