Good Afternoon to all the Crime Watch, Captain, Advisors and members in Upper Macungie Township,

Wow, it is hard to believe we are already in summer, schools are out, kids are playing and many families are going on vacations. The Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department will continue to be aggressive in its stance against criminal activity in your neighborhood. Remember, if you are going on vacation please go to our web site www.blrpd.org , click on Vacation Check, and fill out the information requested. Once you are completed with the form, it will be forwarded to our office and assigned to a patrol officer to check your house periodically. This will provide you with peace of mind while you are away enjoying time with your family. When you return home, simply call the police to cancel the vacation check.

A few things you need to know...

The Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department is not only committed to the adults in Upper Macungie Township but also to our youth. As a parent myself, I realize kids today grow up in a more complex society and are influenced with what they see and hear on television, as well as video games, music and DVD movies. The reality of all this provides them with a false sense about our way of life and leaves them unsure when they are troubled on who to trust. In order to form a better bond with our youth the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department is proud to announce a Junior Police Academy which will held August 11, 2009 through August 14, 2009. Class size will be limited to 30 applicants and children must be at least 12 years of age to participate and no older than 16 years of age. This is a good chance to understand the world of policing. The Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department is taking applications
starting July 01, 2009 through July 31, 2009. Please visit our web site www.blrpd.org click on Junior Police Academy and then go to downloads to print off the application. Fill it out the application and return it to the listed address prior to August 01, 2009.

Finally, the Upper Macungie Township Board of Supervisors will be deliberating on July 02, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss a new building to house the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department in Upper Macungie Township. This building would be the main headquarters for the police department. As Crime Watch Captains, Advisors and members, you are welcome to attend this meeting and provide your opinion to the Board of Supervisors. Although I am on vacation, I support this project and Crime Prevention Peter Nickischer will be my representative at this meeting.

I sincerely want to THANK YOU for all you do for our Police Department and your Community. I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful summer.

Michael P. Weiser
Chief of Police
