INCIDENT: FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

LOCATION: BEAR VALLEY ROAD WEST OF I AVENUE, HESPERIA



SUMMARY:

On November 11, 2018, at approximately 9:25 pm, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Hesperia Station and the San Bernardino County Fire Department received a call of a traffic collision on Bear Valley Road west of I Avenue involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian. Deputies arrived on scene and found an adult male pedestrian down in the roadway, suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision. The driver of the vehicle, an adult male, and his passenger, an adult female, was still on-scene after the collision. The female passenger suffered minor injuries. The pedestrian that was struck succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Hesperia Station MAIT (Major Accident Investigation Team) conducted the investigation and determined the male pedestrian was traveling eastbound in the number two lane of Bear Valley Road in his wheelchair when he was struck by the Toyota Prius, which was traveling eastbound on Bear Valley Road. The driver of the Toyota immediately stopped and remained on-scene until deputies arrived. The male victim's identity is still pending confirmation from the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office. Bear Valley Road was closed in both directions from I Avenue to Ridgecrest Road until approximately 3:15 am, while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. At this time, alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor in the collision, and the driver and passenger were cooperative with MAIT investigators.
