Suspect(s): Phuoc Dang, 58-year-old Novato resident
Petaluma PD received a citizen report of a possible DUI driver at a gas station. The driver reportedly smelled of alcohol, was bleeding from his face, and his vehicle showed signs of recent damage. Officers arrived and contacted Phuoc Dang, who was standing next to his vehicle and looking at its shredded front tire. He smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking.
A DUI investigation was initiated and Dang was eventually arrested. Records indicated he had three prior DUI arrests. A preliminary breath test revealed he was twice the legal limit of .08%. However, he refused to submit to an evidential chemical test, forcing officers to obtain a search warrant for his blood sample. He was eventually booked into the Sonoma County Jail for DUI.
