Cases of Community Interest

Below are some cases from the past few days that may be of interest.
 
Cell Phone Grabs
On November 5th at 6:30 pm, a woman (age 20) was walking on the 2400 block of Dwight Way when a suspect ran behind her and grabbed the cell phone in her hand.  The suspect was last seen running eastbound on Dwight Way along with another person.

On November 5th at about 8:50 pm, a woman was walking on 2300 block of Durant Avenue using her cell phone when two suspects came up behind her, grabbed her phone, and ran away.  The suspects were last seen running away northbound on Ellsworth Street.  The woman (age 21) received a minor injury during the incident that did not require further medical treatment.

DUI Arrest
On November 5th at 7:05 am, Berkeley Fire personnel requested emergency assistance at the Double Tree Hotel for a man who had been found asleep in his vehicle with the engine running.  When Fire personnel tried to help the man, he became combative.
 
When officers arrived they determined that the man was under the influence and arrested him.  When officers searched the man, they discovered a quantity of powder cocaine in his pockets.  The man (Vincent Vaquilar, Male, 27 years old, Berkeley, CA) was arrested for suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol and possession of a controlled substance.

Street Robberies
On November 6th at 9:47 pm, a man was walking on the 1800 block of Addison Street when two suspects ran up to him, pointed a gun at him, and demanded his property.  The suspects were last seen running north on Grant Street.

On November 7th at 6:41 pm, a woman was waiting at the bus stop on Hearst Avenue at Euclid Avenue using her cell phone.  While there, a vehicle pulled up and a man quickly approached her and tried to grab the cell phone from her hands.  The suspect punched the woman in the head until she could no longer hold on to the phone.  The suspect then got back into the waiting vehicle and drove away east on Hearst Avenue.  The woman (age 28) was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Auto Burglars Captured
On November 6th at 11:15 pm, a man parked his vehicle in an off-street parking lot on the 2500 block of Durant Avenue and went inside Top Dog.  A few minutes later, the man walked back to his vehicle and noticed another vehicle “peeling out” of the parking lot.  When the man got to his car, he saw that it had been burglarized.  Based on the description provided, officers located and detained the suspect vehicle on Claremont Avenue (near the city border).  When officers searched the vehicle, they located the victim’s stolen property as well as property from another auto burglary on the 1800 block of Delaware Street.
 
Delfino Stevens (Male, 37 years, Berkeley, CA) and Henry Hudson (Male, 42 years old, Richmond, CA) were arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property and auto burglary.  Stevens was also arrested for violating his probation.
