On Wednesday, November 07, 2018 at 9:51 am, officers responded to Safeway on the report of a shoplifting which just occurred. Upon arrival at the store, an officer discovered that an unknown suspect was inside of the business concealing merchandise when a customer confronted him. The suspect walked towards the 72-year-old customer, shoved him to the ground, and then fled from the store towards the Del Norte BART station. As a result of the assault, the customer sustained significant injuries which required hospitalization. The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. Based on video surveillance footage, the suspect is described as an African American male, around 30 years old, medium build, standing 5’09” tall, wearing a white baseball hat, black jacket, and a plaid shirt.
