HPOA and HPD ANNOUNCE “NO-SHAVE NOVEMBER” and “DECEMBEARD” FUNDRAISERS

The Hollister Police Officer’s Association (HPOA) and the Hollister Police Department are pleased to announce its fourth annual “No-Shave November” and “Decembeard” fundraisers. Since 2015, the HPOA has raised nearly $10,000 for local and national causes and charities.

For the months of November and December, HPOA members donate $50 to the HPOA. The HPOA then matches that contribution. This means $100 per month, per participating member, is donated to worthy causes. In exchange, Hollister Police Chief David Westrick suspends the facial hair grooming regulations for those months.

This year, the fundraiser started early in the month of October. The newly-formed Hollister Police Foundation (HPF) supported a similar fundraiser benefitting Breast Cancer awareness and research.  In addition to the suspension of a facial hair regulation, HPOA members and members of the public were invited to purchase pink HPD challenge coins and pink pins resembling the HPD shoulder patch. The HPF hopes to contribute approximately $2,500 dollars to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. This fundraiser is ongoing – members of the public are still able to purchase challenge coins and pins in the Hollister Police Department lobby.

This year, in keeping with the original intention of “No-Shave November”, monies raised by HPOA members will be donated to the American Cancer Society to be used for Prostate Cancer research. Monies raised in the month of December will be donated to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital to support the great work they do with children.

The HPOA and HPD are made up of men and women who work tirelessly with the end goal of keeping this community safe. Inherently, as brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, and sons and daughters, we have all been touched in some way by these diseases. The HPOA and HPD are proud to partner in giving back to the community, and helping benefit these worthy causes.
