Two arrested in connection with rolling gun battle through San Leandro streets; police locate guns, drugs, and cash

In the early morning hours on Thursday, October 25th, 2018, two vehicles raced through a San Leandro street shooting guns at each other. The incident occurred around 2:00 am between the 300-600 block of Macarthur Blvd.  Police dispatch received several reports from callers who heard multiple gunshots from two speeding vehicles.

Officers found a disabled unoccupied vehicle riddled with bullets on the e/b 580 freeway on-ramp. Officers began to investigate the scene and found an evidence trail of bullet casings from high-powered weapons strewn across the roadway and approximately 6 pounds of finished marijuana inside the car. Officers were unable to locate any involved persons in the area.

San Leandro Police detectives began investigating the crime, talking to witnesses and obtaining video surveillance. Within a day of the incident, the driver of the abandoned car was identified as 30 yr-old Kyle Booth of Hayward.

Over the next few days, detectives began searching for Booth and finally located him yesterday in Hayward while driving with his younger brother, 27 yr-old Kameron Booth. Detectives followed the subjects to San Francisco and safely detained both outside a barber shop in the Bayview neighborhood.

When detained, Kyle Booth was in possession of a loaded firearm and a large sum of cash. Kameron Booth was also in possession of a large amount of money and inside their vehicle was more cash and approximately one pound of finished marijuana.  After totaling, the brothers were in possession of close to $43k in cash at the time of arrest.

Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant for their home in the Hayward hills. Detectives located what appeared to be a high-level drug trafficking operation. Inside the home they found;
•    Approximately 180 pounds of finished marijuana
•    Packaging materials, scales, and transportation containers
•    Four additional handguns, ammunition, and high-capacity magazines
•    Nearly two million dollars in U.S. currency in various denominations in several duffle bags.
•    Money counting machine and heat shrinking plastic bags used to calculate and process large sums of cash.

"This is a major bust," said San Leandro Police Lieutenant Isaac Benabou. "The street value of the marijuana alone is close to one million dollars, coupled with the cash and other assets makes this the largest asset seizure case by the San Leandro Police Department. These are dangerous people engaged in a very lucrative criminal operation. There is no regard for the law or the safety of anyone as we have seen in this rolling gun battle. Our staff worked numerous hours on this case as we cannot tolerate this type of criminal activity in our community.”

The case against the brothers will be presented to the Alameda County District Attorney on Friday, November 2nd and will include seven felony crimes and two misdemeanor offenses.

Kyle and Kameron remain in custody at Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. Photos of the arrested subjects will not be released at this time.
