RESIDENTS QUICKLY RESPOND TO SIMI VALLEY’S DEA DRUG DROP OFF EVENT

Once again the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Drop Off was a very successful event with Simi Valley Police Department employees, volunteers, and explorers collecting over 225 pounds of unwanted medications.

This event marked the Police Department’s 7th anniversary providing our community with a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of unwanted drugs. Events such as these are another way we work with the general public to educate everyone about the potential for abuse of medications.

For your convenience, our Police Department has provided a safe and ecological way for residents to dispose of old and unwanted medications.

• Please call our Property Room at (805) 583-6964 to make an appointment for any Tuesday or Thursday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. (excluding holidays).

• Empty the contents of pill bottles into a Ziploc bag. (Please recycle pill bottles at home and scratch our all personal identification.)

• Leave liquids, gels or creams in their original containers and place them into a Ziploc bag.

• Do not dispose of waste medication down drains or toilets or in the trash.

• Sharps such as needles, syringes and any other items used for diabetic tests are not accepted. Sharps disposal containers are available for free at Sierra Vista Family Medical Center, 1227 E. Los Angeles Avenue, Simi Valley, CA 93065, (805) 582-4000.

If you would like any information regarding other Crime Prevention Programs please contact the Crime Analysis & Prevention Unit’s, Crime Prevention Coordinator, Jean-Marie Maroshek, at (805) 583-6276 or [email protected]
