On October 30, 2018, at about 9:00 am, members of the Simi Valley Code Enforcement Unit were in the 4500 block of Industrial Street, investigating an odor, when they came upon potentially hazardous materials. The Simi Valley Police Department, Ventura County Fire Department’s Hazardous Material Unit and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department’s Bomb Squad responded to investigate the material. The area has been contained and there is no immediate danger to the public. This investigation will continue.

Investigators concluded that a variety of chemicals were being stored in a building in the 4500 block of Industrial Street. The chemicals alone are not illegal to possess and were not possessed in a sufficient amount to make them dangerous. The on-scene investigation has concluded; however, Simi Valley Code Enforcement will to continue to investigate potential storage and clean-up violations.
