SMPD Investigates Isolated Shooting Incident Near Downtown Train Station - Non Life-Threatening Injury, Suspects Outstanding

On Friday evening October 26th, at about 9pm, SMPD Officers were alerted to a disturbance in the area of Tilton Avenue and B Street in Downtown San Mateo. Officers investigating the disturbance were led to a rear alley behind businesses on North B Street and out into the parking lot of the Downtown San Mateo Transit Center. Officers located a 20 year-old male resident of San Mateo in the parking lot of the transit center who was suffering from a single, non life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to the nearest trauma center.

Officers cordoned off the parking lot of the transit center to search for evidence, and Caltrain did not stop at the Downtown Transit Center during the investigation by SMPD request. It is important to note that this incident did not occur on the train. The San Mateo Police Department appreciates the cooperation of several vehicle owners who were delayed in retrieving their parked vehicles while the necessary investigation was conducted. Both the ground level and underground parking at the Transit Center were canvassed for evidence.

SMPD continues to search for additional evidence, and the suspect or suspects in this case are still outstanding. SMPD takes these violent crimes very seriously and will be working relentlessly to solve this case. This was an isolated incident, and appears at this point to be gang-related.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact SMPD Dispatch at 650-522-7700.

This is all the information that is available at this time. SMPD will provide additional information when an update is appropriate.
