Jesus Echeverria of Highland arrested for attempted murder after a fight on Palm Avenue and 5th Street.

DATE/TIME: Sunday, September 30, 2018 / 1:16 a.m.

INCIDENT: PC 664/187(a) – Attempted Murder

LOCATION: Palm Ave. / 5th St., Highland

SUSPECT(S): Jesus Echeverria, a 29-year-old male, a resident of Highland

VICTIM(S): 38-year-old male, a resident of Highland

SUMMARY:

On Sunday, September 30, 2018, at approximately 1:16 a.m., deputies responded to a gas station in the area of Palm Ave. and 5th St. regarding multiple subjects fighting. The reporting party said one of the subjects involved in the fight had a knife. When deputies arrived, they discovered the 38-year-old victim was stabbed and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, deputies determined the victim and suspect got into a fight. During the fight, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim. The victim attempted to get away from the suspect, but the suspect chased the victim around the location. While chasing the victim, the suspect made several more attempts to stab the victim in the chest. The suspect got into the passenger seat of an awaiting red Toyota Prius, driven by another male. The driver of the Prius circled the parking lot and intentionally struck a female before fleeing the location.
Through an investigation, the stabbing suspect was identified as 29-year-old Jesus Echeverria. On October 18, 2018, Echeverria was arrested on the 27000 block of Cypress St in the city of Highland. During the service of a search warrant, investigators recovered evidence linking Echeverria to the crime. He was booked into the Central Detention Center for PC 664/187(a), attempted murder, with a bail amount of $1,000,000.00.
The identity of the driver of the red Toyota Prius is unknown at this time. He was described as a Hispanic male in his 20’s.
