GTPD Community Bulletin:GTPD 3rd Gear policing initiative Project SAVE(Substance Abuse Visionary Program)expands to 17 Camden County towns
On Wednesday October 18, 2018 Gloucester Township Police Chief Harry Earle and Gloucester Township Mayor David Mayer participated in a press conference announcing the expansion of the GTPD 3rd Gear Policing initiative Project Save Program into 17 Camden County Towns.
This pilot program is being modeled from the current program that Gloucester Township Police Department created in 2014. Since the start of the program until this September the township has been able to reach 178 individuals suffering from opioid use disorder.
In Camden County this program is being implemented for one year to look at the effectiveness of having an advocate and navigator for nonviolent offenders suffering from opioid use disorder. The objective of this program will be to save lives, stabilize individuals suffering through the throes of addiction and reduce recidivism in the criminal justice system. Today, more than 34 percent of our inmates entering the Camden County Jail have a use disorder and 277 individuals lost their lives to opioid overdose throughout the county in 2017.
The GTPD Project SAVE Advocate serves as a resource for the Gloucester Township Police Department providing information
about treatment programs to individuals who need assistance and information regarding substance abuse for themselves, a friend, or a loved one. The Gloucester Township Police Department offers a SAVE Advocate for those suffering from addiction .
