Suspicious Vehicle Near Elementary School

UPDATE**
Suspicious vehicle/occupant identified. A parent from Van Buren that had classmates of the children reporting the incident came forward to police after seeing notification of the incident. The male admitted that he was offering the children a ride to school because they were running late and because of the weather. All parties involved including school officials were notified.

On 10/15/18 at 8:00 AM, four female elementary students from Van Buren School reported that an unidentified stranger had made verbal contact with them, from a passing vehicle, and had asked them if they needed a ride to school. All four girls were walking west to school near the intersection of W. State St. and S. Oakhill Av. The four girls reported that they ran to an adult crossing guard, just south of this intersection, and reported the incident to school authorities. School administration and police have contacted the girl’s parents.

The male was described:
M/W, dark hair, shadowed beard, late 20’s to mid-30’s, driving a dark colored gray or blue SUV. The vehicle left traveling west after the girls ran away.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to use P3 tips or call the Janesville Police non-emergency number at 757-2244.
