Suspect found passed out in stolen vehicle
Detective Patrick Guion of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged John Mark Jenkins, 27, of 40 Madac Drive in Marion, with two counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and one count each of larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Deputy Mike Fox of the Sheriff’s Office also charged Jenkins with injury to personal property.
Shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, Clayton Thomas, of Old Highway 10 West in Marion, reported that someone stole a 2014 Hyundai from his property.
As Deputy Steven McPeters was taking the stolen vehicle report, Guion responded to 1087 Airport Road in reference to a man unresponsive in a car in the driveway.
Guion found Jenkins in the stolen Hyundai, along with some drug paraphernalia.
An investigation showed that Jenkins went to Thomas’ residence, broke into a separate car and stole the keys to the Hyundai then drove off in the Hyundai.
Fox transported Jenkins to jail. After exiting the patrol car at the McDowell County Law Enforcement Center, Jenkins began banging his head on the side of it, causing $457.96 in damage.
