Narrative:
The woman who was shot and wounded by a sheriff’s deputy Tuesday morning has been identified as Corrina Reyes, 36, of El Rio.
Reyes was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura Thursday afternoon for assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer after she was released from a local hospital. Reyes was shot in the hand when she threatened a deputy with a hammer while he tried to arrest her for an outstanding felony warrant.
Reyes will appear in court on Friday, October 12, 2018 for the felony warrant for battery on an emergency responder. She is due to appear Monday, October 15, 2018 for the new charge of assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer. Reyes’ bail has been set at $500,000.00. The name of the deputy involved in the shooting is Nikolai Castaneda, a six-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Castaneda was not injured during the incident.
