Flood Warning Until 430 AM Thursday

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Eastern Pulaski County in southwestern Virginia...
Eastern Giles County in southwestern Virginia...
Craig County in southwestern Virginia...
The City of Radford in southwestern Virginia...
Montgomery County in southwestern Virginia...
Greenbrier County in southeastern West Virginia...
Summers County in southeastern West Virginia...
Monroe County in southeastern West Virginia...

* Until 430 AM EDT Thursday

* At 730 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that very heavy rain had fallen or was continuing to fall across
the warned area. Additional heavy rain is expected during the
night as Hurricane Michael moves north into Georgia.

* Rainfall of 1-2 inches has already fallen in this area during the
past hour. The ground will quickly become saturated and additional
rain will result in excessive runoff into area creeks and streams.
Flooding will be particularly problematic in low-lying, poor
drainage, and normally flood prone areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Blacksburg...
Christiansburg...
Radford...
Alleghany...
and Lewisburg.

Bluestone River...
Little Laurel Creek...
Taylor Branch...
and North Fork Anthony Creek.

This includes The following Locations Virginia Tech and The West
Virginia State Fairgrounds.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports and
pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service
Blacksburg Facebook page and on Twitter.
