WHAT: Aggravated Assault on Upper Riverdale Road
WHEN: October 8, 2018
WHERE: Upper Riverdale Road near Roy Huie Rd., Riverdale, Georgia 30296
DETAILS: On October 8, 2018, shortly after 7:00 a.m., Clayton County police officers and members of Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services responded to an accident with injuries involving multiple vehicles on Upper Riverdale Road near its intersection with Roy Huie Road.
Responding officers were advised that a Mazda 626 driven by 28-year-old Kelsey Qualye was traveling westbound on Upper Riverdale Road when the vehicle began to drift into the lanes of oncoming traffic. The Mazda subsequently struck a Suzuki XL-7 and after doing so, the Mazda was struck by a Ford Escape that was traveling eastbound as well, causing the Ford to roll onto its roof.
The drivers of the Suzuki and the Ford escaped the accident with minor injuries. Qualye had to be removed from her vehicle and was transported to Southern Regional Medical Center in critical condition. She was later transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
As doctors at Grady Memorial Hospital worked throughout the night in an attempt to treat Qualye’s injuries, they discovered that she had sustained a gunshot to her neck. Qualye’s injuries are considered to be life-threatening and she remains in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Clayton County Police Department Detectives have begun an investigation into the shooting and believe that Qualye may have been shot as she was traveling on Upper Riverdale Road just before her vehicle began drifting into oncoming traffic. Detectives are seeking the assistance of the public and are asking that anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed anything suspicious to contact Crime Stoppers (404-577-8477).
