...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
THURSDAY EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of western North Carolina,
including the following areas, Avery, Buncombe, Burke
Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk,
Greater Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford,
Henderson, McDowell Mountains, Mitchell, Polk Mountains,
Rutherford Mountains, Transylvania, and Yancey.

* from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening

* Heavy rain associated with a southeast flow of moisture ahead of
Michael is expected to develop as early as Wednesday afternoon
near the Blue Ridge Escarpment. As much as 2 to 4 inches of rain
could fall across the eastern slopes of the mountains and
foothills of North Carolina as the storm passes, with higher
amounts possible along the escarpment.

* Dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding could develop
across this area, especially near the Blue Ridge Escarpment.
Isolated landslides are also possible in these areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
