DATE/TIME: October 2, 2018

INCIDENT: Resisting an Executive Officer, Hit and Run, Carjacking

LOCATION: 7200 Block of Church St., Highland

SUSPECT(S): June Kayshawn Mayfield (male), age 26 a transient in San Bernardino

SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, October 02, 2018, at approximately 12:41 am, deputies from the Highland Police Department responded to a report of a carjacking in the area of Boulder Avenue and Greenspot Road. With limited information, deputies conducted an area check and observed a white Honda in the immediate area, driving at a high rate of speed. Deputies attempted to catch up to the vehicle and found the vehicle crashed at the dead end of Baseline Street. The driver, later identified as June Mayfield, fled the scene of the accident prior to Deputy arrival. An area check for Mayfield was conducted however he was not found.

At approximately 5:17 am, a business owner was in the process of opening their business and left the door unlocked. The business owner reported a male subject, fitting the description of Mayfield, was acting in a bizarre manner then leaving the store. Deputies responded to the area and located Mayfield. Mayfield did not comply with deputies' commands and became combative with them. A deputy deployed a Taser however, Mayfield continued to ignore the commands to comply and was able to flee from deputies.

Sheriff's K9 Ellie, and her handler, Deputy David Moyer, were requested from the Victor Valley Station. Once deployed near the location where Mayfield was last seen, Ellie immediately alerted to his path. Approximately ten minutes after being deployed, Ellie alerted to the backyard of a residence. Deputies assisting Ellie searched the location and found Mayfield hiding behind a barbeque. He was taken into custody without further incident.
