Duarte Weekly Crime Blotter 9-23-18 to 9-29-18

Dear Duarte Community:

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of September 23 thru September 29, 2018

 
September 23, 2018

  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). An adult male selected three power bank chargers from the electronic section, then walked over to the women’s section and placed the items in a brown leather bag he came into the store with. He then walked out of the store without attempting to pay for the items.  Deputies arrested the male for shoplifting.  He told the deputies he is homeless and took the items to sell for money.                      
 
September 24, 2018
  • A Grand Theft was reported in the 500 block of Greenbank Avenue. Between 5:00 pm on 09-21-18 and 7:00 am on 09-24-18, a laptop was reported stolen from a vehicle.  The victim did run a few errands in between the time of the theft, and is unsure when and where the theft took place. There were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle.
  • A Grand Theft Auto was reported in the 1100 block of Oak Avenue. Between 11:00 pm on 09-23-18 and 4:00 pm on 09-24-18, person’s unknown stole a 2014 Nissan Sentra from the street. The vehicle was recovered on 09-27-18 in the city of Pasadena.  No suspects in custody.   
 
September 25, 2018
  •  Deputies were patrolling the 1400 block of Huntington Drive, when their attention was drawn to an adult male sitting against a brick wall in a vacant lot.  Do to the fact there have been past narcotic related arrests made at this location, deputies contacted the male. As they made contact, they saw the male was holding a glass pipe used to ingest narcotics, which he quickly tried to conceal in a handbag.  After conducting a narcotics investigation, the male was arrested for Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance.  The male was a resident of Los Angeles.
  • While on routine patrol in the area of Buena Vista Avenue and Huntington Drive, deputies stopped and checked the welfare of an adult male slumped over on a bench.  They immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and person. The male stated he was fine, however, he could not stand on his own and due to his intoxication, thought he was in the city of Buena Park.  Due to the male being unable to care for himself, he was arrested for being under the influence of alcohol in public.   
 
 
 
 
September 26, 2018
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). An adult male entered the store and selected two bottles of Patron Tequila and several clothing items.  He placed the items in a hand basket, then entered the fitting rooms.  Upon exiting the fitting room, he set the hand basket with the clothes down and walked out of the store.  Noticing the bottles of tequila were not in the basket, he was detained by store security. Both bottles were recovered and responding deputies arrested him for shoplifting.  The male is a resident of Los Angeles.               
 
September 27, 2018
  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 2400 block of Bloomdale Street. The second and third row seats to a 2007 GMC Yukon were stolen.  There were no signs of forced entry.
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). An adult female entered the store with a shopping cart and selected a back pack and numerous miscellaneous items. She then concealed the items in the back pack and walked out of the store, making no attempt to pay for the items. She was detained outside the store by security.
 
She told responding deputies she planned on paying with her EBT card, but when she realized she forgot it, she took the items anyways.  The female was arrested for shoplifting and is a resident of Los Angeles. 
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). Loss Prevention observed an adult female selecting an electronic tablet, along with miscellaneous cosmetics and electronic accessories.  After paying for the tablet with a gift card, she walked out of the store without paying for the cosmetics or electronic accessories.  Once outside the store, she was detained by security and the miscellaneous items recovered.  The female had attempted stealing approximately $225 in merchandise.  She was arrested for shoplifting by responding deputies and is a resident of Baldwin Park.   
 
September 28, 2018
  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 400 block of Fairwood Street. Person’s unknown shattered the rear window to a Honda Civic and store the vehicle registration and some loose change from the center console. 
             
September 29, 2018
  • An Assault with a Deadly Weapon was reported at Buena Vista Street and Bloomdale Street.  A male adult was observed doing donuts in the street in front of the Duarte Teen Center, while yelling at a female pedestrian.  Several times, the vehicle came dangerously close to the pedestrian, causing her to jump out of the way in order to prevent from being struck. Deputies detained the male and learned the male and female had recently broken up.  After further investigation, the male was arrested and booked for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
