SUSPECT:    Lajuana Phillips, age 36 a resident of Helendale

SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at 12:31 pm, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call for service regarding an assault that had just occurred at a business in the 14000 block of 7th Street in Victorville.  The reporting party stated that her husband had just been punched in the face by an unknown female and the female was still at the location. The reporting party then advised Sheriff’s Dispatch that the female was fighting with another subject.  Upon arrival, the deputy located the female, later identified as Lajuana Phillips, in the parking lot of the business.  The deputy conducted a records check of Lajuana Phillips and found that she had a misdemeanor arrest warrant out of West Covina for driving with a suspended license.  When the deputy informed her of the warrant she became uncooperative and got into her vehicle.  The deputy ordered her several times to get out of the car.  She ignored the deputy’s commands to peacefully exit her vehicle. She continued to be uncooperative and the deputy deployed oc spray (commonly referred to as pepper spray) into her vehicle, utilizing a less than lethal form of force.  The suspect then attempted to drive her vehicle toward the deputy and a deputy involved shooting occurred.  Emergency medical personnel responded to the location and pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene.

Investigators from the Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail, responded to the location and assumed the investigation.  Investigators were advised by witnesses and involved parties that the suspect had entered the business upset about the working condition of her vehicle that she had purchased from the company.  They further stated that the suspect had threatened the lives of those working there out of rage and frustration for issues related to
her vehicle.

The deputy was not injured during the incident.  The victim assaulted by the suspect declined medical attention.
