Sheriff Richard J. Benhke reports that on 09/28/2018 at approximately 10:42pm, his Deputies were called out to investigate a personal injury crash of a Can-Am Maverick ATV four seater with what appeared to be a tree. Initial investigation shows the Can-Am vehicle with heavy front end damage possibly from a tree, but no accident scene was found in the area. The driver of the vehicle is unknown at this time, but the passenger of the vehicle was Michael Hankins(38 year old Wakarusa, IN resident) who was injured in the crash. Michael was transported by Porter Ambulance Service to Elkhart General Hospital in Indiana to treat injuries. The Can-Am was discovered at the 70000 block of Sunset Blvd in Union, MI. It is still unknown to who was driving the Can-Am at this time, and this crash is still under investigation. If anyone has any information about this crash please call the Cass County Sheriffs Office. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.
