Crime Alert Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 09-18-18 at 11:38 a.m., Officer Graner was dispatched to Rio Verde Street and Geneva Avenue on a report of a suspicious male picking up items and attempting to break into a vehicle. A Brisbane police officer was on scene and had already detained the subject. Officers found heroin and a pipe in the subject’s possession. The subject, a 27-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for those offenses, as well as an outstanding warrant.

On Wednesday, 09-19-18 at 2:03 p.m., Officer Digiacomo and Officer Mahan were dispatched to the Dollar Tree store on Geneva Avenue on a report of a shoplifting in progress. The dispatchers gave a description of the subject, and the officers saw the subject walking nearby on Geneva Avenue. The officers noticed the subject had food items hanging out of his jacket, and it appeared the inside of his jacket was stuffed with items. The subject told the officers he paid for the items. The subject became argumentative and resisted the officers’ requests to sit down and talk to them. Officer Digiacomo subsequently arrested the subject, a 23-year old Oakland resident, for making death threats to two officers, resisting arrest and for outstanding warrants.

On Saturday, 09-22-18 at 2:46 p.m., Officer Baroni was dispatched to the area of Mission Street and Flournoy Street on a request to remove a subject from the MUNI bus. Officer Chittenden arrived to assist, and the bus driver said there was an intoxicated subject who was sleeping in the back of the bus. The officers responded and tried to wake the subject and had to walk him off the bus. The officers asked the subject if he had any weapons on his person, and the subject said he had a knife. The officers searched the subject and found two knives, as well as a paper bindle containing methamphetamine. Officers cited the subject, a 40-year old San Francisco resident, for possession of a controlled substance.

On Sunday, 09-23-18 at 1:22 p.m., a 39-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic collision involving four parked vehicles on the unit block of Brooklawn Avenue.

Robberies

There were three robberies during the past week.

On Tuesday, 09-18-18 at 8:05 p.m., Officer Farrar and Officer Jackson-Berrios were dispatched to the area of Ocean Grove Ave and Westmoor Avenue on a report of a robbery that had just occurred. The victim, a 27-year old Daly City resident, said he was walking home on Eastmoor Avenue from the Colma BART station and said when he got to Ocean Grove Avenue, he said an unknown suspect ran past him and suddenly turned around and walked back to him. The victim said at the same time, another unknown suspect came from behind and “stuck” an unknown object in his back and stated something like, “If you scream, I’ll shoot you.” The victim said the first suspect demanded his wallet and punched him on the left side of his forehead and took his gold chain from around his neck. The victim said the suspects then ran to an occupied parked older model white Toyota on Westmoor Avenue, and the vehicle then sped away eastbound on Eastmoor Avenue. The victim could only describe the first suspect as a Hispanic male, 19 years, 5’5”, 120 lbs., black hair, who wore a black hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, and white tennis shoes. The victim did not see the second suspect. Officers checked the area but could not locate the suspects.

On Friday, 09-21-18 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Officer Hass was dispatched to Jefferson High School on a report of a robbery that occurred the day before at the Jack-in-the-Box across the street from the school. A witness showed the principal a video of what occurred, and the principal reported it to the police. The principal identified the suspect who is a student at the school. On the video, the suspect is captured cornering another student near a wall, physically grabbing the student’s arm and backpack, demanding money. Officers arrested the suspect, a 15-year old Daly City resident, for robbery, false imprisonment, criminal threats, and for an adult offense committed by a juvenile.

On Friday, 09-21-18 at 1:30 p.m., Officer Covarrubias and Officer Hyink were dispatched to Westmoor High School on a report of a robbery that occurred two days prior. After an investigation, the officers arrested a 15-year old student for stealing a gold chain from a 14-year old student.

Residential Burglaries

There were three residential burglaries during the past week.

On Monday, 09-17-18 at 9:50 a.m., Officer Martin and Officer Andrade were dispatched to the unit block of Bellevue Avenue on a report of a possible residential burglary in progress. The 18-year old victim said he was sleeping in his bedroom and heard knocking at the front door at 9:00 a.m. He said he looked out his bedroom window and saw a white vehicle parked across the street but didn’t see anything suspicious. The victim said 20-30 minutes later, he heard knocking again, as well as glass breaking, possibly coming from the garage. The victim said he called 9-1-1 and heard rummaging and male voices talking in the other bedrooms of the house. The victim said one of the suspects opened his bedroom door, and the victim picked up a foam roller and started jabbing it towards the suspect. The victim said the suspect then ran out of the houses with the other suspects. The victim described the suspect as approximately possibly a light skinned Hispanic male adult, 6’0”, 170-180 lbs., wearing a black balaclava and a bulky drab olive jacket and carrying a white bag. The victim thinks the suspect had some of his family’s belongings in the bag. The suspects took Chinese currency and jewelry. The officers checked the surrounding area but could not locate any suspects. This investigation is continuing.

On Tuesday, 08-18-18 between 12:00 p.m. and 9:32 p.m., a residence on the unit block of Terrace View Court was burglarized. An unknown suspect(s) entered the detached garage via an unknown means and took a MacBook Air laptop, personal documents, a backpack, and two duffel bags. This investigation is continuing.

Between 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, 09-23-18 and Monday, 09-24-18 at midnight, a residence on the unit block of Morton Drive was burglarized. The victim, a contractor, said he left his tools at the job site and said his associate was the one who stole the items. After an investigation the following day, officers arrested the suspect, a 53-year old Pacifica resident, for residential burglary, receiving stolen property and for possession of burglary tools.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. Please note: the City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
