SAFETY TIPS DURING HEAVY RAINS & FLOODING

SAFETY TIPS DURING HEAVY RAINS & FLOODING

HEAVY RAIN CAN CAUSE LOCALIZED FLOODING. RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED TO TAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.

A wet saturated ground can lead to unsafe platforms for trees. Trees with a heavy leaf canopy can easily uproot with even a mild wind. Keep in mind that trees that appear healthy can be unstable when it comes to their roots. Trees are at risk of falling, even days after the rain has stopped.
Do not walk through flood waters.
Do not touch or use any electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.
Check your basements regularly for flooding.
If you have to drive, slow down and keep your lights on.
Do not drive through floodwaters or deep puddles, which can cause your car to stall or you to lose control.

REPORT DOWNED POWER LINES/CABLES:

Stay clear of downed lines and report them immediately to Jersey Central Power and Light at 1-888-544-4877 . DO NOT TOUCH ANY DOWNED WIRES! Seek help immediately by calling 9-1-1. SMART PHONE users: 24/7 Power Center outage maps are now available on computers and mobile devices at www.firstenergycorp.com/outages. Customers may now view individual outages, with best-available estimated restoration times, as well as the cause of the service disruption when available. Customers can also toggle to the conventional shaded map to see an overview of any power outages across the service territory.
