Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that deputy's from the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a personal injury traffic crash on Brownville St. west of Diamond View Rd. in Cass County's Jefferson Township. This crash occurred on 9-24-18 at 2:20pm. The investigation of the crash found that the driver, Matthew Bixby, (31 yrs from Dowagiac) was west bound on Brownsville St. when he became drowsy and lost control of his car. The car left the roadway and struck a 3 foot diameter dead tree. After the impact, the top of the tree broke off and landed on the roof of the car. Mr. Bixby was injured in the crash, but refused medical treatment on scene. Seatbelts were worn and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Mr. Bixby was transported to the hospital by private car. Assisting on scene were Cassopolis Fire Dept., Trues Wrecker Service and AEP. The crash remains under investigation.
