Advisory

Coastal Flood Advisory until 12:00AM Tuesday

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory, which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to midnight EDT tonight.

* LOCATIONS...The central and northern New Jersey Shore

* TIMING...The high rip risk continues through this evening. Coastal flooding is possible with the high tide this evening.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Up to one half foot of saltwater inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Minor roadway flooding is possible on Long Beach Island, Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant Beach and other locations near Barnegat Bay. Minor roadway flooding is possible for coastal locations in Monmouth County.

* SURF ZONE IMPACTS...A high risk of rip currents means dangerous and potentially life threatening conditions exist for all people entering the surf. People visiting the beaches should stay out of the high surf.

* WAVES...5 to 8 feet on the ocean front.

* AFFECTED AREAS: EASTERN MONMOUTH ... COASTAL OCEAN

Instructions:

A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is expected. Minor Tidal flooding often results in some road closures. Usually...the most vulnerable roadways will flood. Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged...leading to costly repairs. Visit the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service at water.weather.gov/ahps for additional water level and flood impact information for your local tide gauge.
