Incident: Pedestrian and Motor Vehicle Collision Sends Pedestrian to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Location: Intersection of North McDowell Blvd. and East Madison St.
Incident Summary:
On Saturday Night at 7:36 PM Petaluma Police Dispatch received numerous 911 calls reporting a pedestrian had been hit by a car at the intersection of North McDowell Blvd. and East Madison St. Officers arrived on scene and found 24-year-old Miguel Gonzalez from Petaluma lying on the ground in the southbound lanes of North McDowell Blvd. The driver of the vehicle who collided with Gonzalez, Thoan Ferguson a 47-year female from Castro Valley was also on scene.
Apparently, Gonzalez was crossing from the west side of North McDowell Blvd. to the east side. Ferguson was traveling in a Toyota Highlander in the southbound lanes when her vehicle collided with Gonzalez.
There is a marked crosswalk which crosses North McDowell Blvd. where Gonzalez was crossing. An independent witness said it appeared Gonzalez was outside the crosswalk when he was struck. The witness was traveling behind Ferguson when she collided with Gonzalez and said Ferguson had a southbound green light as she entered the intersection.
Gonzalez was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for injuries to his head. While his injuries appeared to significant at the time he was transported to the hospital none of the injuries were believed to be life threatening.
Thoan Ferguson the driver in the collision was cooperative with the investigation. There were no signs of her being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. There was also no evidence that she was speeding at the time of the collision. Officers who spoke with Gonzalez in the emergency room detected the odor of alcohol on Gonzalez person. He did admit to having one beer prior to the collision.
