Update; Chevron incident concluded at 11:48 am this morning.
As a result of working to restart the FCC unit, the Chevron refinery experienced a monitoring equipment malfunction resulting in the release of a visible catalyst plume. This material is classified as a non-hazardous substance and can be removed with soap and water. There may also be a loud sound, which is normal. The El Segundo Fire Department is monitoring the situation closely. For comments or concerns, please call Chevron at (310) 615-3747.
