Information regarding Costa Mesa Police Officer Oscar Reyes’ funeral service tomorrow

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR FALLEN CMPD OFFICER REYES TO BE HELD AT CHRIST CATHEDRAL ON FRIDAY

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) will honor their fallen hero, Officer Oscar Adrian Reyes, tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., at The Christ Cathedral, 13280 West Chapman Avenue, Garden Grove.

Officer Oscar Adrian Reyes, 43, Huntington Beach, was a 13-year veteran with CMPD. Officer Reyes started his career at CMPD as a recruit on Feb. 6, 2005. He was sworn in as a police officer on Aug. 21, 2005. He worked as a motor officer in the Traffic Division for the past 10 years, five of those as a motor trainer. Officer Reyes was the Special Events Officer and coordinated police coverage for the OC Fair, OC Marathon, Special Olympics, OTS funded initiatives, and any other large-scale events in Costa Mesa. Officer Reyes was also involved in the Explorer Program and was a mentor and advisor. In his career, Officer Reyes was also a Field Training Officer, responsible for training new officers, and served as a Drug Recognition Expert. He also organized CMPD’s participation in Baker to Vegas.

On Sept. 12, 2018, Officer Reyes participated in the Orange County Traffic Officers’ Association Motor Rodeo. In the evening, while at home, Officer Reyes felt ill and contacted his CMPD partner for help. He was found unconscious and was transported to a nearby hospital where he subsequently passed away from a heart attack. Officer Reyes leaves behind a wife and three children, ages 15, 14, 10. The Costa Mesa Police Association set up a scholarship fund for the family, which can be found on their website, www.costamesapa.com.

On Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, Officer Reyes’ funeral service will start after a procession from the Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary to the Christ Cathedral. The procession will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. Following the service, honors will be rendered in the Garden Plaza of the Christ Cathedral.

In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations can be made to Project 999, by mailing in a check to P.O. Box 241, Santa Ana, CA 92702. Project 999 is an organization that supports Orange County Law Enforcement by providing assistance to any officer and families of officers injured or killed in the line of duty in Orange County.
