Email and Web Body

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... McDowell County in western North Carolina... Burke County in western North Carolina...

* Until 815 PM EDT.

* At 217 PM EDT, So far today, localized new rainfall amounts have been as high as 3 or 4 inches across the warned area. For the rest of the afternoon, rounds of locally heavy tropical showers will continue to develop and move across the region. Additional rainfall is expected to exasperate ongoing high water conditions, and aid in developing flooding on the already swollen tributaries of the Catwaba River. New areas of flooding of low-lying or urban areas around greater Morganton and Marion remain possible as well as locales along the I-40 and US 70 corridors. Excessive rainfall over the warned area may also cause mud slides near steep terrain. The mud slide can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.

Event Description:

Flash Flood Warning

Remember, most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Never attempt to cross water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is not worth the risk. Please TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.
