On Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 12:50 AM, an officer with the Middleton Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle after learning that the sole registered owner did not possess a valid driver’s license. The driver was identified as Orville L. Townsend, 31, of Fitchburg. The officer noted an odor of intoxicants coming from Townsend’s person and he admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages. After completing field sobriety testing, Townsend was arrested for 4th offense Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI), a felony. Townsend later provided an evidentiary chemical test of his breath, which was found to be 0.19, more than twice the legal limit in Wisconsin.
Townsend was transported to the Dane County Jail where he was booked on the tentative charge of 4th offense OWI. He was also ticketed for operating after the revocation of his driver’s license.
