UPDATE: On September 12,2018, HCSO homicide investigators filed Murder charges against Alex Akpan for the strangulation death of the victim, Irene Yemitan.

Akpan was arrested by investigators at his home without incident at approximately 6:22 p.m. tonight. The charge was filed in the 339th District Court and no Bond has been set. Akpan is currently booked into the Harris County Jail.

On Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at approximately 8:00 pm, HCSO District 4 deputies responded to an unknown medical emergency at 9600 Wellsworth in west Harris County.

Upon arrival they met with EMS personnel, who pronounced an unidentified black female deceased at the residence. Deputies spoke with the homeowner who stated she arrived home from work and discovered the female in a recycling bin inside her son’s bedroom.

She further told deputies that her son was nowhere to be found. Homicide investigators responded to the scene and upon arrival learned that the homeowner’s son had returned to scene and was being detained by deputies.

During the preliminary investigation, investigators noted the victim had no apparent signs of injury.

Investigators wound later file criminal charges of Tampering with Human Corpse [ 10,000 bond / Cause 339th DC / Cause # 1604121] against the suspect.

At the time of this pass-on the victim still had not been identified and her autopsy revealed signs of strangulation.
