Flood Advisory until 06:30AM

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Advisory for... Central McDowell County in western North Carolina... Northwestern Burke County in western North Carolina...

* Until 630 AM EDT.

* At 428 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a series of heavy rain producing showers and thunderstorms moving repeatedly northeast along the Blue Ridge from Woodlawn to Ashford to near Jonas Ridge. Radar and rain gages indicated rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in the heaviest downpours, and this heavy rain will likely continue through at least 530 AM. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Marion, the Blue Ridge Parkway-Little Switzerland To Linville, Pleasant Gardens, Ashford, Woodlawn, Jonas Ridge, North Cove, Linville Falls, Table Rock and Nebo. Flooding will be most likely along and near Upper Fork, Little Fork, and Warrior Creek in Burke County.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MCDOWELL, NC ... BURKE, NC

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Only when it is safe to do so, please report floodwaters or landslides flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather Service by calling toll-free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names, and other landmarks.
