Parolee arrested after fighting with Police Officers

At approximately 7:23 PM, SVPD Dispatch received a 911 call from a female juvenile at the Regal Center on Tapo Canyon Rd. The juvenile stated that she was being harassed by a male subject with long hair. Officers arrived and the subject, 36 year old Grant Blanchette, was pointed out to them.

The Officers knew Blanchette as a repeat offender that is on Parole for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The Officers contacted Blanchette who was uncooperative. The officers attempted to conduct a Pat Down Search of Blanchette for weapons and he resisted. Blanchette was taken to the ground and a fight ensued. The officers were able to use physical force to overcome and ultimately handcuff Blanchette. After Blachette was in custody, officers located heroin on his person.

Both of the involved officers went to the hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries. One officer recieved x-rays for an injured wrist.

Blanchette was transported to the hospital for facial abrasions prior to being booked in Ventura Main Jail. He was charged with a Parole Violation, Child Annoyance, possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting a Police Officer.

Being that this was a Friday night, the Regal Center was very busy with many families and bystanders. During the incident, a large crowd developed. The SVPD would like to thank all of our residents for their patience and support of our officers.
