Get a jump start on week two of National Preparedness Month which begins on Sunday, September 9th
The theme for National Preparedness Month, September 9-15 is, “Learn Life Saving Skills.” Learn the skills and gain the confidence to help until professional help arrives. Make sure you know how to keep your home safe:
• Know basic home maintenance to protect your family and home. Learn how to protect your home against flood damage, or the impacts of earthquakes
• Learn how to turn off utilities like natural gas in your home
• Put smoke alarms on every level of your home. Test your smoke alarms monthly. Replace them when they are 10 years old
• Know the ways to keep your home safe from cooking, heating, and electrical fires
• Enroll in the City of Simi Valley Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) Academy! Open enrollment for the fall 2018 academy is going on right now. You can enroll on line by visiting this link on the internet: www.simivalley.org/CERT
• Take "Until Help Arrives" web-based training by visiting this link on the internet: https://community.fema.gov/until-help-arrives
