San Leandro Police stay busy during the holiday weekend

The San Leandro Police Department stayed busy throughout the holiday weekend. SLPD dispatchers answered 1,182 phone calls made into our communications center, of which 458 were 9-1-1 related. Over the three day period, SLPD officers responded to a total of 548 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the leading events that occurred over the weekend. In addition to below, three DUI arrests were made, one involving a traffic collision with minor injuries.

Friday, August 31st, 2018 – Suspicious circumstances & loaded firearm
In the early morning hours, SLPD officers were dispatched to a possible adult abduction in the 500 block of Marina Blvd. Witnesses reported seeing a woman being dragged into a vehicle by a male subject. The vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed. Detectives responded and began investigating, within hours the vehicle was located in Oakland with both subjects inside. The couple were in a dating relationship and had an argument. There was no abduction, however, a loaded firearm was located inside the vehicle. The male subject was arrested for the firearm and other on-view offenses.

Friday, August 31st, 2018 - Residential robbery
At 9:00 am, officers responded to the 200 block of Lorraine Ave. after the resident discovered someone entered his home and stole five firearms. The resident was home at the time and heard the suspect(s) inside but thought it was another family member.  The resident later learned that his step-mother's purse was stolen during an auto burglary while she was at the gym earlier in the morning.  The suspects from that burglary used the keys found in the purse to enter the home and take the loss. (SLPD wants to remind everyone to never leave valuables unattended in your vehicle under any circumstances.)

Friday, August 31st, 2018 - Amtrak train strikes pedestrian
Around 9:00 am, SLPD officers responded to the area of Williams Street and the railroad tracks, where a northbound Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian walking on the railroad tracks. This case is being investigated by the Union Pacific Railroad Police Department.

Saturday, September 1st, 2018 - Interrupted burglary and assault
Around 10 pm, SLPD officers responded to Bayfair Mall regarding a subject who was burglarizing a vehicle. The victim discovered his vehicle being burglarized and began to chase the suspect. The suspect produced a BB gun pistol and shot at the suspect several times, striking his vehicle. The suspect was seen running into the Starbucks and hid in the bathroom. Officers arrived, evacuated the store and eventually took the 13-year-old male suspect into custody. The BB gun pistol was also located.

Monday, September 3rd, 2018 - Strong-arm robbery
Around 4:30 pm, Officers responded to Fashion Fare next to Bayfair Mall after the report of a street robbery. The victim stated that she was walking in the shopping center when the suspect walked behind her and forcibly grabbed her purse. The suspect then ran to an awaiting vehicle and fled the area. The suspects were described as black male adults driving a green older model Nissan Maxima.
