Robbery Suspects Arrested

On August 13th at 5:13 pm, a 21 year old woman was waiting at the bus stop near the corner of MLK Jr. Way and Ashby Avenue.  While waiting for the bus, a vehicle drove up next to her and the passenger (a 17 year old juvenile) got out of the vehicle and grabbed a cell phone from the woman’s hands.  The suspect tried to quickly get back in the car—with the victim still holding on.  The suspect’s then drove away, briefly dragging the woman in the road and nearly running her over.  Fortunately, the woman was not hurt during the robbery (video of incident—https://youtu.be/cxKhc6pFxJ4).

After extensive investigation, detectives arrested the vehicle’s driver (Daevon Laquan Hudson, Male, 18 years old, Antioch, CA) on August 15th in connection with the robbery.  On August 30th, detectives arrested the suspect who grabbed the victim’s phone (a 17 year old juvenile, San Leandro, CA) as well.

In a past review of street robberies, we found that over half of the victims were holding an electronic device in their hand or were walking alone.  The Berkeley Police Department encourages members of the community to always remain alert and aware of your surroundings when handling/viewing their personal electronic devices.
