Incident Summary:

On the listed date and time, a Petaluma police officer observed Jesus Carrillo riding his bicycle.  The officer had prior knowledge that Carrillo had two outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrants.  The officer attempted to stop Carrillo who then fled on his bicycle.  Carrillo came to the D Street Bridge and abandoned his bicycle and attempted to flee on foot.  The officer chased Carrillo on foot and followed him over a fence. Carrillo then jumped into the Petaluma River and started to swim south away from the officer.

Responding units set a perimeter around Carrillo so that he could not escape.  In addition, the Petaluma Fire Department was requested and assisted officers.  Carrillo was eventually taken into custody without further incident.  Carrillo was arrested for his outstanding warrants, resisting arrest, and a violation of his probation terms.  Carrillo was booked at the Sonoma County Jail and held on no bail.

The officer who was attempting to arrest Carrillo was injured during the incident.   He later received medical treatment for his injury and was not able to return to duty.  It is not known when he will return.
