August, 20th, 2018

459 PC (Commercial) – St. Johns (Update):
Officers followed up on the burglary at St. Johns the Baptist from the previous night and reviewed video surveillance from inside the school. Officers identified a 24-year-old subject who was seen by officers in the area at the time of the alarm. Officers located the subject, placed him under arrest, and then booked him into the Martinez Detention Facility.

Attempted Commercial Burglary - 11280 San Pablo Ave:
An officer responded to a burglary at 0141 hours, where approximately six males wearing dark hooded sweatshirts tried to kick in the front glass door of the auto dealership. The force of them kicking the window triggered the alarm which scared them away. There was no damage to the window.

Grand Theft – 410 EC Plaza (Verizon):
At 1500 hours, an officer responded to a report of three stolen cell phones from the Verizon Store by an unknown suspect.

Computer Crime – 7400 block of Curry Ave:
An officer reports the loss of $22,000 perpetrated by an unknown suspect from the victim’s bank account. The victim reports the theft has been occurring incrementally since earlier in the year.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery – S.56th / Madison Ave:
An officer recovered a 2007 Honda Pilot which was reported stolen on June 27th out of Windsor, CA. The vehicle was parked, locked, and the alarm was set.

August 21st, 2018

Grand Theft - 900 block of Sea View Dr:
At 0700 hours, an officer responded to the report of a grand theft that occurred during the night. The investigation revealed that an unidentified suspect stole construction equipment between 08/21/18 at 0026 and 0156 hours.

Auto Burglary - 9889 San Pablo Ave. (Peets Coffee):
At 0921 hours, an officer responded to an auto burglary that occurred within the past 10 minutes. The suspect smashed the rear window of a vehicle and stole property.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery / Auto Theft – Ross, 11545 San Pablo Ave:
At 1213 hours, an officer located a Honda Accord which was reported stolen to the Richmond PD on 08/20/2018. The vehicle was recovered and released to the owner at the scene. The owner left the car in the parking lot where it was stolen again a short time later.

Auto Burglary – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross):
At 1310 hrs, an officer reports the victim’s 2018 Dodge Caravan (Rental) was broken into by an unknown suspect. The property loss consisted of a black leather purse and misc. items.

Vehicle Pursuit – S. 59th St / Bayview Ave:
An officer attempted to stop a black Honda CRV with dealer plates driving in the area of San Pablo Ave and Bayview. The vehicle failed to yield and fled into the City of Richmond. The pursuit was canceled due to the unnecessary risk to the public.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Moeser Ln:
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 19-year-old male from Rodeo for a felony Contra Costa County warrant. The man was booked at the ECPD and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

August 22nd, 2018

Exhibiting a Firearm – San Pablo Ave / Potrero Ave:
Officers responded to a call of a female armed with a gun who had just pointed it at a victim in front of Denny’s. A 51-year-old transient woman was found standing in front of the bus stop on San Pablo Ave and Potrero armed with a loaded handgun. The woman was taken into custody peacefully. The woman was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Residential Burglary- 3300 block of Carlson Blvd:
At 0739 hours, an officer took a report of a residential burglary that occurred. The garage to the residence was entered by forcing open the main garage door. The loss was five motorized dirt bikes. The victim did not have any further information on the dirt bikes as they belong to her husband. The theft took place between 08/21/18 1700 hours and 08/22/18 0700 hours.

Residential Burglary - 3200 block of Santa Clara Ave:
At 0802 hours, an officer responded to the report of a residential burglary. The garage was entered via a neighbor’s unlocked main garage door (complex has a large garage that has individual garage doors but opens into a shared space). The loss was a bicycle and softball gear. The burglary occurred between 08/21/18 at 2300 hours and 08/22/18 at 0635 hours.

Warrant Arrest and Controlled Substance Possession: BART Path/Portola Dr:
At 1325 hours, an officer was dispatched to the report of a man down. Officers arrived and contacted a 39-year-old man from San Francisco. The man had a warrant for his arrest and was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Grand Theft Walgreens, 11565 San Pablo Ave:
At 1439 hours. ECPD officers were sent to Walgreens on a reported fight. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect, took $1255 worth of merchandise and attempted to leave the store. The suspect was stopped by store security who regained possession of the stolen property. While taking back the items, the suspect struck the security agent with a bag of toilet paper rolls.

Shoplifting – 11060 San Pablo Ave (Big 5):
An officer reports an unidentified male in his 30’s, wearing a beige shirt and pants, entered the Big 5 store and took two pairs of Nike shoes, two 49’er shirts, and a chocolate bar.

Vandalism (under $400) – BART Path / Schmidt Ln:
An officer on viewed a 37-year-old male from Richmond vandalizing the wall along the eastern side of the BART Path, just north of Schmidt Ln. The male was issued a citation at the scene and released. The property owner was contacted, and he requested prosecution through the DA’s Office.

Grand Theft – 1200 block of Contra Costa Dr:
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole property from the victim’s vehicle which was left unlocked overnight.

Warrant Arrest – 670 EC Plaza (CVS):
An officer responded to a call of unwanted subjects outside of CVS. The officer contacted a 35-year-old transient man and found he had a warrant for a previous ECPD Battery case. The male was booked at the ECPD and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Narcotics Possession – 500 block of Bonnie Dr:
Officers responded to assist the Fire Department with a medical call at the residence. The circumstances were identified as drug related. A 25-year-old male resident was found to be on probation, and a search revealed he was in possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl). The male was arrested, booked, and then released with a citation.

August 23rd, 2018

Methamphetamine Possession / Warrant - 1000 blk San Pablo Ave:
At 1343 hours, an officer contacted a 44-year-old transient male during an unwanted persons call. Several neighbors reported the subject as a neighborhood nuisance by him being drunk, banging on doors, trespassing, etc.

Residential Burglary – 10500 block of San Pablo Ave:
An officer reports an unknown suspect scaled the rear outer wall of an upstairs apartment unit and stole the victim’s red beach cruiser style bicycle from the back patio.

Shoplifting – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
An officer was flagged down by security regarding a theft which had just occurred. The suspects were located on the Del Norte BART platform and identified as a 57-year-old male from Oakland and a 42-year-old female from Oakland. The suspects were both field cited due to medical reasons, and the property was recovered.

August 24TH

Petty Theft - 510 El Cerrito Plaza:
At approximately 1036 hours, an unknown suspect arrived in a white Mercedes, got out the vehicle and removed a pressure washer and a hose from the storage area. The suspect got into the passenger seat of the Mercedes and fled the area. The suspect is described as an adult male, thin build, black hat, black shorts, grey tank top, and black shoes. The driver of the suspect is described as a white female adult, blonde hair, and heavy set. The theft occurred on August 17th at approximately 1407 hours.

Auto Burglary – 500 block of Bonnie Dr:
Sometime between 2100 hours on 8/23/18 and to 1000 hours on 8/24/18, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle by unknown means and ransacked the interior of the victim’s car. The suspect stole the victim’s work laptop, black Swiss Army travel backpack, which contained a Nikon camera with lenses, and a first generation iPad.

Warrant Arrest – Blake St. and Kearney St:
At approximately 1141 hours, an El Cerrito Police Officer conducted a pedestrian stop and subsequently arrested, a 34-year-old transient male, for an outstanding warrant out of Contra Costa County. The male was arrested and transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

Residential Burglary – 2500 block of Arlington Blvd:
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s home by prying open a kitchen window. The suspect then ransacked two rooms, taking $40.00 in US currency. The burglary occurred between 1030 hours to 1250 hours.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Avenue / Castro Street:
At approximately 2355 hours, an El Cerrito Police Officer conducted a vehicle stop and arrested a 40-year-old San Pablo man for an outstanding warrant from Berkeley PD. The man was issued a citation in the field and released.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Avenue / Ohio Street:
At approximately 2359 hours, an El Cerrito Police Officer arrested a 25-year-old Richmond woman for an outstanding warrant from the San Jose PD. The woman was later released from the ECPD with a citation.

Warrant Arrest – 11344 San Pablo Avenue (Dennys)
At approximately 0311 hours, an El Cerrito Police Officer arrested a 30-year-old Richmond man for two outstanding warrants from the Richmond PD. The man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Robbery – Portola Avenue / San Pablo Avenue
At approximately 0320 hours, an El Cerrito Police Officer met with the victim of a robbery who was punched in the face and had her cell phone stolen.

August 25TH

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Central Ave at San Mateo Ave.
At approximately 1117 hours, an El Cerrito Police Corporal located a black Toyota Camry that was reported stolen out of Berkeley on 8-21-18. A stop was made on the Camry and the driver, a 68-year-old male from Berkeley was taken into custody. The male had a key to the Camry and stated that he was still legally married to the registered owner/victim of the vehicle; however, they were going through a separation. The victim/registered owner of the vehicle later confirmed that she and the male had been separated for three years. The male was booked and released from the police station.

Warrant Arrest, Possession of Controlled Substance – San Pablo Avenue / Potrero Avenue
At 1956 hours, an El Cerrito Officer arrested a 28-year-old Richmond man for being in possession of a controlled substance, and a 35-year-old Oakland woman for a Sonoma County warrant. The man was released with a citation, and the woman was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Attempted Robbery – 11821 San Pablo Avenue (McDonald's)
At 2029 hours, an unknown suspect tried to reach over the counter and steal cash from the register as the attendant opened the drawer. The employee was able to slam the cash drawer shut before the suspect was able to grab any money.

Felony Assault – 11575 San Pablo Avenue (Church’s Chicken)
At 2108 hours, a man attempted to take the bag of food away from a customer in the drive-thru at the business. The customer then exited his vehicle and assaulted the man by punching and kicking the man while he was on the ground.

August 26TH

Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Battery/Drunk in Public/Probation Violation – 225 El Cerrito Plaza (Trader Joe’s):
At approximately 1243 hours, El Cerrito Police Officers responded to a strong-arm robbery in progress where the suspect was fighting with store employees. With the assistance of store employees, a 50-year-old male from Berkeley was taken into custody.

Petty Theft – 3020 El Cerrito (Sprint):
At approximately 1504 hours, an El Cerrito Police Corporal accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 28-year-old male from Oakland who removed a Samsung cell phone from a display and then fled the store. The male returned to the area and attempted to leave with a friend but was pointed out by security and detained. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

Robbery – 10650 San Pablo Ave (CVS):
At 1639 hours, two unknown suspects entered the pharmacy area of the CVS. As one held the pharmacists back and punched her, the other entered the pharmacy stock room. During the robbery the suspects demanded Codeine from the pharmacist. Fortunately, a nearby employee heard the commotion and called 911. The pharmacists ran from the suspects, and the suspect fled out the store eastbound through toward the BART Path.

Warrant Arrest – S. 56th Street / Potrero Avenue
At 0023 hours, an officer contacted a 34-year-old Richmond man and arrested him on a warrant. The man was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

August 27TH

Auto Burglary – El Cerrito Plaza:
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle by an unknown means and took an iPad in a grey case. The time of occurrence was 8/20/18 between 1400 and 1500 hours.

Battery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At approximately 0951 hours, an El Cerrito Police Officer arrested a 43-year-old transient female, after she attempted to leave the business with a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise. The female attempted to ram and hit an employee with the cart but was unsuccessful. The female was located on San Pablo Avenue and Carlson Boulevard but attempted to flee upon being contacted by officers. The female was eventually detained and placed under citizen’s arrest.

Strong-Arm Robbery – Parking lot of 11299 San Pablo Ave:
At approximately 1159 hours, an unknown suspect approached the victim as she was walking and snatched her purse from her. The suspect got into the passenger side seat of a white vehicle.

Shoplift – 11565 San Pablo Avenue (Walgreens)
At 1807 hours, an unidentified suspect entered the business and left with merchandise making no attempt to pay for the items.

Robbery – 4010 El Cerrito Plaza (AT&T)
At 1940 hours, four unidentified suspects entered the business and removed several electronic items from the security displays by ripping the items off their mount. The suspects then fled the parking lot in a silver Toyota vehicle.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 11861 San Pablo Avenue (Starbucks)
At 0052 hours, an officer located a blue motorcycle which had been reported stolen to the San Francisco PD in June. The owner could not be contacted, so the motorcycle was towed away for safekeeping.
