Advisory

SCHOOL STARTS 8/30/18 IN HOLLIS AND BROOKLINE

IT SEEMS HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION NEXT WEEK! School buses will be hitting the roads again and we urge you to drive with caution, watch for children and never drive distracted. The safety of our children is of the utmost importance, please drive responsibly.

The Hollis Police Department wishes to remind motorists of the following tips to help keep you and our children safe:

When a school bus is stopped with the stop sign extended from the driver’s window you must stop immediately, no matter what direction you are traveling. School bus violations are strictly enforced and carry penalties beginning at $124.00 and $610.00!

Be very aware when school is back in session, as children will be walking to and from schools and bus stops.

As autumn approaches, there will be less daylight and children will be out early in the morning and thus more difficult to see.

Watch for children entering the street from behind buses or running to catch the bus.

When driving your children to school, drop them off and pick them up as close to the school as possible.

Don't leave your children until they are safely on school grounds.

Drive slowly when approaching children who are riding bicycles and walking near the street.

Watch your speed when entering school zones. The Hollis Police Department will be utilizing grant funding to increase presence in school zones and on roadways during school commute times.

The Hollis Police Department wishes everyone a safe school year.
