3 Carjacking/Kidnapping Suspects Arrested after LASD Lost Hills Pursuit. Victim is Safe!
A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) Lost Hills Station deputy on routine patrol pulled over a grey SUV for a traffic violation near Westward Way and Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu on Friday, August 24, 2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m. After the deputy detained a passenger, the driver drove away in the vehicle.
The deputy had observed narcotics paraphernalia inside the vehicle and put out a “be on the lookout” for the vehicle who fled his traffic stop. Deputies spotted the vehicle minutes later and initiated a short pursuit, which lasted approximately 10 seconds before being terminated.
Near the site of the initial traffic stop, a civilian observed the suspects toss a black bag . The bag was handed over to the deputies, who discovered it contained a handgun.
While under surveillance by a LASD airship, the victim was able to exit and was detained by deputies. After speaking to the victim, a deputy relayed to the watch commander information that they believed this was a carjacking/kidnapping incident involving that same vehicle and suspects.
A short time later, LASD Aero located the vehicle in the city of Calabasas. A solo deputy pursued the suspect vehicle into Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) jurisdiction. LAPD was contacted to assist the solo deputy until sufficient deputy personnel arrived.
The pursuit ended at 6:16 p.m. near Burbank Boulevard and Canoga Avenue in the city of Woodland Hills, after 2 suspects ran from the vehicle and were detained by LAPD and LASD a short distance later.
Three suspects were detained in total. One male Hispanic adult, one male White adult and a female Black adult.
The female White adult victim was unharmed.
There is no additional information available at this time.
