News Release: Police Looking For Man Who Offered Girl Ride

Police are seeking information into a suspicious circumstance involving a man who stopped to talk to an 11-year-old girl as she was riding her bicycle home from school. The man’s motive and whereabouts are unknown.

On Thursday, August 23, 2018, our 24-hour dispatch center received a call at 6:00 p.m. from a father reporting a suspicious encounter his 11-year-old daughter had with a man earlier in the day. At around 3:05 p.m., the girl was riding her bicycle on Ross Road. When she approached the 3400 block, a man in a black truck stopped and talked to her. The girl was by herself and the man asked if she would like a ride home. Several older children riding bicycles observed the encounter and told the man the girl was with them. The man drove off in an unknown direction.

The girl described the man as possibly Hispanic, but she did not get a good look at his face because she was looking down. He was driving a two-door older model black truck that had a tan wool blanket in the truck bed which appeared dirty.

Detectives are investigating this case. Police ask for your help with reporting suspicious activity immediately. We also advise parents to remind children to remain alert no matter where they are, and to tell a trusted adult immediately about anything they see that does not seem quite right.
