High Desert Detention Center- In custody death investigation

INCIDENT: In-Custody Death Investigation
LOCATION: High Desert Detention Center, Adelanto
VICTIM: Scott Purdy, 49 years old, Barstow resident
SUMMARY:
On August 22, 2018 at 5:20 a.m., deputies responded to the High Desert Detention Center regarding a report of an inmate who was not breathing and unresponsive. Upon arrival, deputies found Purdy on his bunk, not breathing. Deputies attempted life saving measures until paramedics and fire personnel arrived on scene and pronounced Purdy deceased.
Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators responded and conducted an investigation. The investigators found no evidence of injury to Purdy’s body and it was determined he suffered from multiple medical conditions. The cause of Purdy’s death is pending autopsy.
